Job Description:

Your new company

We are working closely with a leading highways service provider, delivering integrated management, maintenance, and civil engineering services to local authorities. With over two decades of industry reputation, they have grown into one of the largest names in the sector. Our client blends engineering expertise, innovative technology, and a focus on customer care to manage and improve road networks. For an idea of their scale, they currently support approximately 10,000 miles of highways, 8,400 miles of footways, and 7,000 miles of public rights of way across the country. They have an ethos that is based on building collaborative, long-term partnerships with their clients, often co-locating teams to work towards shared goals.

Your new role

We're seeking a proactive and experienced Highways Structural Supervisor to oversee and ensure the quality and safety of structural maintenance and improvement projects on our road network across the capital. You'll be responsible for supervising site visits, reporting defects, coordinating work, ensuring adherence to specifications and regulations, and maintaining accurate records. Your expertise in highway structures, including bridges, retaining walls, and culverts, will be crucial in delivering high-quality and efficient project outcomes. You'll also play a key role in promoting a safe working environment and fostering effective communication within the team and with stakeholders.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  1. Inspect & Assess: Conduct surveys and daily inspections of structural projects on highways schemes, such as bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, and culverts, to ensure they meet safety and legislative standards.
  2. Solve Problems: Be proactive, challenge others to push standards, and use initiative to resolve structural issues on major highway structures.
  3. Enforce Standards: Work with local authorities, subcontractors, and legislation to maintain structural reliability and functional excellence.
  4. Drive Change: Review safety protocols and data collection systems to innovate maintenance practices and streamline operations.
  5. Collaborate: Build networks with stakeholders and engage with the public to deliver excellent customer service.

What you'll need to succeed

A proactive mindset towards rectifying structural defects across your area. We seek someone who can recognize build defects, highlight them, and demonstrate a drive to find the root causes and improve build standards across the company. While SSSTS/SMSTS cards are beneficial, they are not mandatory. An undergraduate degree in civil engineering is preferred but not essential.

What you'll get in return

You will have the opportunity to work within one of the largest and most progressive teams in highways construction and maintenance in the country. Additionally, you will enjoy the following perks:

  • Highly competitive salary + perks
  • Regular day shift pattern, which is highly unusual in the highways industry
  • Alternative working patterns, including part-time hours and job sharing
  • Opportunity to purchase up to 5 days of extra leave
  • A variety of discounts via the company app, including restaurants, holidays, and days out
  • Life Assurance
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Pension scheme
