Job summary

Tata Steel in Port Talbot is seeking a highly experienced Civil/Structural Engineer (Projects) to lead end-to-end delivery of major CAPEX works (£100m) in a live brownfield site. You will oversee design coordination, budget control, risk management and reporting to senior stakeholders.

You should have 10+ years in senior project management for civil/structural construction, a civil/structural degree, UK CDM 2015 knowledge, NEC contract familiarity, and a driving licence.

Qualifications

  • Degree education in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years' experience in senior project management roles delivering major civil and/or structural construction projects
  • Driving Licence and access to own vehicle
  • Proven track record delivering major UK civil and structural construction projects (£100m CAPEX preferred)
  • Significant experience managing EPC, EPCM, construction management, and principal contractor delivery models in live brownfield/industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of UK construction legislation (CDM 2015, Health & Safety at Work Act)
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience with contract management principles (NEC contract environment preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Providing safety leadership across civil & structural works in compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and H&S legislation
  • Leading end-to-end delivery of major civil & structural CAPEX projects (£100m) from mobilisation to handover
  • Coordinating civil and structural design activities across partners, consultants, and contractors
  • Managing principal contractors, construction management partners, and specialist subcontractors
  • Establishing and maintaining robust quality assurance and quality control processes
  • Leading daily project controls
  • Maintaining six-week look-ahead plans
  • Tracking programme milestones
  • Managing interfaces between Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Operational workstreams
  • Managing project budgets, change control, variations, and compensation events (NEC environment)
  • Maintaining risk registers, opportunity plans
  • Presenting daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports to senior stakeholders
  • Leading, coaching, and managing a team of project engineers

Role: Civil/Structural Engineer (Projects)
Location: Tata Steel, Port Talbot Works, Swansea, SA13 2NG
Salary: £60,000 per annum
Contract length: initially until Dec 2027 but with the potential to be until Mar 2028
Shift Patterns: Mon-Fri, 36.5 hours per week. Typical hours are Mon-Thu 08:30-16:45 and Fri 08:30-15:45, however flexibility is required but also given
Start: ASAP pending the successful completion of a medical assessment which includes a drug and Alcohol test

Essential requirements:
  • Degree education in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years' experience in senior project management roles delivering major civil and/or structural construction projects
  • Driving Licence and access to own vehicle (due to nature of the site)
  • Proven track record delivering major UK civil and structural construction projects ( £100m CAPEX preferred)
  • Significant experience managing EPC, EPCM, construction management, and principal contractor delivery models in live brownfield/industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of UK construction legislation (CDM 2015, Health & Safety at Work Act)
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience with contract management principles (NEC contract environment preferred)
Desirable requirements:
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Project Manager status
