Career Choices Dewis Gyrfa Ltd is assisting Tata Steel in Port Talbot to recruit an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer for Projects.

The role focuses on delivering major capex civil/structural works in a UK steel environment, with strong emphasis on safety leadership, project controls, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • Degree education in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline

Responsibilities

  • Providing safety leadership across civil & structural works in compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 and H&S legislation
  • Leading end-to-end delivery of major civil & structural CAPEX projects (>£100m) from mobilisation to handover
  • Coordinating civil and structural design activities across partners, consultants, and contractors
  • Managing principal contractors, construction management partners, and specialist subcontractors
  • Establishing and maintaining robust quality assurance and quality control processes
  • Leading daily project controls
  • Maintaining six-week look-ahead plans
  • Tracking programme milestones
  • Managing interfaces between Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Operational workstreams
  • Managing project budgets, change control, variations, and compensation events (NEC environment)
  • Maintaining risk registers, opportunity plans
  • Presenting daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports to senior stakeholders
  • Leading, coaching, and managing a team of project engineers

The successful applicant will be a precision focused, highly experienced Civil/Structural Engineer with tenure managing capex projects.

On this occasion, only applicants with full right to work in the UK already in place can be considered Role: Civil/Structural Engineer (Projects) Location: Tata Steel, Port Talbot Works, Swansea, SA13 2NG Salary: £60,000 per annum Contract length: initially until Dec 2027 but with the potential to be until Mar 2028 Shift Patterns: Mon-Fri,
36.5 hours per week.

Typical hours are Mon-Thu 08:30-16:45 and Fri 08:30-15:45, however flexibility is required but also given Start: ASAP pending the successful completion of a medical assessment which includes a drug and Alcohol test

Essential requirements
  • Degree education in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years' experience in senior project management roles delivering major civil and/or structural construction projects
  • Driving Licence and access to own vehicle (due to nature of the site)
  • Proven track record delivering major UK civil and structural construction projects (>£100m CAPEX preferred)
  • Significant experience managing EPC, EPCM, construction management, and principal contractor delivery models in live brownfield/industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of UK construction legislation (CDM 2015, Health & Safety at Work Act)
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience with contract management principles (NEC contract environment preferred)
Desirable requirements
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Project Manager status
