Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicles safely, complying with road traffic laws and fleet standards.
  • Complete pre-use and daily vehicle inspections for vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes GVW.
  • Report defects promptly and maintain vehicle safety.
  • Keep vehicles and cab clean and presentable.
  • Provide flexible, team-based support to meet service requirements.
  • Assist supervision in coordinating Street Cleansing Operatives.
  • Work within service hours 06:00–20:00, with weekends/bank holidays as rota.

Job description

The post holder will work under the direction of the Operational Supervisor and will contribute to the effective delivery of street cleansing and environmental services across the area.

Role Purpose

The post holder will:

  • * Assist with the supervision and coordination of a team of Street Cleansing Operatives, undertaking a variety of environmental cleaning activities across public highways, open spaces, car parks, town centres and other designated areas.
  • * Work independently or as part of a team to maintain public areas to a high standard, helping to ensure they remain clean, safe and presentable for residents, businesses and visitors.
  • * Take ownership of the standard of work undertaken and ensure that services are delivered efficiently, consistently and in line with operational requirements.
  • * Provide assistance as a reversing banksman when required, in accordance with relevant safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Working Arrangements Work within the operational service hours, normally between 06:00 and 20:00 Monday to Friday. The role may also involve weekend and bank holiday duties according to an established rota. Additional contractual overtime may be required to support operational demands.
  • 2. Vehicle Operation and Driving Undertake authorised driving duties in a safe and responsible manner. All vehicle use must comply with applicable UK road traffic legislation, operator licensing requirements and relevant fleet and transport standards.
  • 3. Vehicle Safety and Inspections Complete the required pre-use and daily vehicle inspections for vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes GVW. Ensure vehicles are safe, roadworthy and suitable for use before commencing duties and throughout the working day. Any defects affecting vehicle safety or operation must be reported promptly through the appropriate fleet reporting system and to the Operational Supervisor.
  • 4. Safety Equipment Check that required vehicle safety equipment and operational accessories are present, serviceable and fit for purpose, reporting any faults or deficiencies without delay.
  • 5. Vehicle Cleanliness Maintain vehicles in a clean, orderly and presentable condition, ensuring that the cab, bodywork and operational areas are kept appropriately tidy.
  • 6. Operational Support Work flexibly with colleagues and supervisors to respond to changing service requirements and ensure that scheduled cleansing activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
