Flagship Advisory Partners is a fast-growing strategy consulting and M&A advisory firm specializing in payments and fintech. We serve clients globally through our offices in in Amsterdam, London, Prague, and Annapolis (near Washington, DC), with a team of 40+ professionals who bring a unique depth of knowledge in payments and fintech. We advise payment providers, fintechs, financial institutions, merchants, software platforms and private equity investors on how to create value through insight-driven strategies.

Our expertise spans four key areas:

  • Client & Market Insights: Market definition, sizing, competitive benchmarking, customer portfolio analysis, and voice-of-the-customer research.
  • Growth Strategy: Strategic planning, opportunity identification, product design, go-to-market optimization, pricing strategy, and new market entry.
  • M&A Advisory: Target identification and screening, commercial due diligence, sell-side representation, and post-merger growth and value activation.
  • Value Acceleration: Operating model design, strategic partnerships, vendor selection, cost and process optimization, and expert advisory for implementation programs.

Role Overview

As a Strategy Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in growth strategy and M&A projects, collaborating closely with managers and senior leaders at Flagship to uncover insights and advise clients. Our consultants spend 80%-100% of their time on project delivery with any spare time being spent on business development.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Project Delivery: Conduct primary and secondary research and analysis as part of a broader project team. Produce high-quality initial drafts of client deliverables. Lead day-to-day coordination communications with junior team members.
  • Strategic Storytelling: Shape and refine project narratives, ensuring clarity and impact in client deliverables. Contribute to the development of strategic recommendations across consulting and M&A advisory engagements, while also supporting thought leadership initiatives.
  • Market Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on market trends, competitors, products, and industry dynamics in payments and banking. Utilize secondary and primary research to inform market studies, competitive analysis, and product strategy recommendations.
  • Financial Analysis: Perform complex financial modeling to support M&A business cases, build/buy/partner analyses, P&L and KPI benchmarking, market sizing analysis, and company valuations.
  • Deliverable Production: Develop compelling, data-driven thought leadership content that drives strategic decision-making.
  • Client Interaction: Actively participate in client meetings and workshops, providing insights and recommendations. Develop strong, long-term client relationships based on your expertise and unique perspective.
  • Business Development: Contribute to our market leading insights, and support with business development activities including sales decks, marketing activities and client relationship building.

The Ideal Candidate

We seek candidates from diverse backgrounds who are eager to leverage their experience in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate is analytically strong, collaborative, and motivated to specialize in payments and fintech.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Work Experience: 3-5 years of experience in strategy consulting, corporate development/strategy, or operating roles in financial services/fintech (e.g., strategy, partnerships, business operations, product management etc.). Prior consulting experience is highly beneficial but not essential.
  • Education: A degree from a leading university, preferably in business or a closely related field.

Skills & Expertise

  • Core Consulting Skills: Strong analytical reasoning, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills. Ability to work with ambiguity, and quickly understand complex topics and analysis techniques to deliver structured, insightful solutions.
  • Strategic & Financial Acumen: Experience in financial analysis, market research, and strategic planning. Proven ability to define and drive product innovation, business optimization, or revenue growth strategies informed by customer and market insights.
  • Industry Knowledge: Enthusiasm for payments fintech innovation and an understanding of key industry topics such as international payment networks, merchant acquiring, card issuing, real-time payments, digital wallets, and open banking.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with productivity tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and a solid grasp of core business and financial concepts.

Other Requirements

  • Language Skills: Professional-level English is required. Fluency in another (European) language is an asset.
  • Location: Available for in-person interviews in London. Willing to work out of Flagship’s London office.
  • Work Authorization: Legally authorized to work in the UK.
  • Willingness to Travel: While the majority of our work is office-based, occasional travel may be required for client meetings and on-site engagements.
