Job summary

Travelers is seeking an SME Underwriter in the UK to own the full trading cycle, from submissions to binds, applying sharp risk analysis to hit targets. The role focuses on commercial lines for SMEs, with pro-active portfolio management and strong negotiation with brokers.

You will operate within a hybrid work model, collaborating with internal teams and brokers to expand business while maintaining the enterprise risk appetite.

Qualifications

• UK: A-Levels or similar qualification.
• Good experience of underwriting, product knowledge, financial analysis, or risk assessment experience.
• Good knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.

Responsibilities

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business across products.
• Underwrite and negotiate risks to maximise profitability, including MTAs.
• Proactively manage portfolio to hit KPIs and target new business/retention.
• Identify corrective actions with Manager on risk characteristics.
• Identify and capture opportunities to write additional lines of business.
• Utilise technology to quote and bind E-Trade risk efficiently.
• Support Underwriting Reviews for policies or portfolios.
• Maintain relationships with internal partners to identify cross-selling opportunities.
• Maintain broker relationships by phone/email to market Travelers products.
• Develop pipeline/retention plans aligned with sales targets.
