Job summary

BEAR Scotland is seeking a Strategic Road Safety Engineer to join the Queensferry team on a full-time, hybrid basis. You will lead strategic road safety activities, manage safety improvements, and collaborate with the Road Safety Manager to shape the programme.

You will bring a Civil Engineering degree, IEng or equivalent, and experience with Scottish trunk road contracts, DM RB/DMRB, and CDM 2015, with a drive to advance into a senior role.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (Essential).
• IEng Certification or willingness to pursue.
• Knowledge of Scottish Trunk Road Maintenance Contracts.
• Understanding of DMRB and design processes.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
• Understanding of Road Safety Engineering and the Safe Systems Approach.
• RoSPA Road Safety Engineering 10 Day Training (or happy to complete).
• Valid UK Driving Licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems in BEAR Integrated Management Systems.
• Undertake Accident Investigation and Prevention studies with economic appraisal of road safety improvements.
• Act as Principal Designer for the company when required, in line with CDM 2015.
• Liaise with client contacts and auditors to support project delivery.
• Assist the Road Safety Manager with annual reviews and 1–3 year programmes.
• Attend project liaison meetings and other internal/external meetings.
• Oversee investigation, design, procurement, supervision and valuation of works.
• Prepare cost estimates and design briefs; liaise with supply chain partners.
• Coordinate production, issue and archiving of drawings and scheme files.
• Provide expertise in Road Safety Audit processes for design functions.
• Support safe systems approach implementation for design functions.
• Manage workflow to Operations teams and ensure compliance with design/construction standards.
• Ensure environmental screening and mitigation per environmental law.
• Submit Departures from Standard when applicable.
• Provide mentoring and support to Road Safety team.
