Job summary

Northern is hiring a Fleet Planner to join the Engineering team on site in York. You will lead the daily planning cycle, create maintenance schedules, and coordinate across TrainCare Centres and operations to keep trains in service.

The role requires strong organisation, railway knowledge and the ability to work with multiple teams to allocate resources effectively. You’ll report to the Fleet Planning Manager.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of railway operations, rules and procedures.
• Experience in planning maintenance or operations in a rail environment.
• Ability to plan and prioritise in a fast-moving setting.
• Collaboration across multiple teams to coordinate resources.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily planning cycle to create an achievable maintenance work plan.
• Create and issue daily schedules for routine and reactive fleet maintenance.
• Coordinate with TrainCare Centres and outstations to manage activity and movements.
• Work with Northern Control to allocate trains to diagrams and locations.
• Monitor fleet mileage and maintenance intervals.
• Investigate data discrepancies in fleet management systems.
• Support return of failed units to service safely and efficiently.
• Ensure plans optimise facilities, resources and equipment.
