Job summary

Mercury Engineering is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial activities on a major UK project. You will manage pricing, cost control and subcontract administration to ensure value and profitability while maintaining detailed records.

The role requires 3–5 years of QS experience, a degree or equivalent, strong Excel skills, and the ability to negotiate with clients. You will mentor junior staff and drive best-practice across commercial processes.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified or equivalent experience in the industry.
• 3–5 years’ experience in a QS role.
• Broad understanding of work contracts.
• Knowledge of Mechanical/Electrical work packages.
• Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent Excel skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Professional negotiation with clients.

Responsibilities

• Review and prepare subcontract documentation for compliance.
• Price Mechanical and Electrical tenders as required.
• Measure and price contract variations.
• Prepare monthly interim applications for payments.
• Issue contractual notices and evaluate loss/expense/acceleration.
• Provide accurate, competitive estimates to enquiries.
• Liaise with client, main contractor and other departments.
• Forecast cashflow and manage project cost plan.
• Mentor QS team and graduates.
• Identify trends and report on project performance.
