Job summary

National Highways seeks a Project Manager to oversee a portfolio of schemes within the Yorkshire North East region, focusing on the renewal of roadside operational technology assets and governance across multiple external contractors.

You will manage programmes within a 5-year rolling capital programme, ensuring delivery aligns with safety, quality and stakeholder expectations, based from Wakefield or Darlington.

Qualifications

• Recognised qualification in engineering or relevant experience in project delivery.
• Portfolio and project management experience.
• Experience with NEC4 contracts.
• Knowledge of civil engineering, technology or infrastructure projects.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the Regional Management Team, Programme Delivery Managers, stakeholders, suppliers and teams; ensure shared understanding of portfolio objectives and report on delivery performance.
• Manage programmes, financial reporting and risk against capital expenditure budgets for all projects in scope; ensure effective financial and contractual practices.
• Maintain positive reputation by promoting best-practice customer and stakeholder communications with communities, operators and road users.
• Identify and drive opportunities for improvement and share portfolio and project management best practice across Operations.
• Manage and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies and constraints; lead development and implementation of effective solutions.
