Job summary

BASC is seeking a Head of Deer and Woodland Management to lead its strategic approach to sustainable deer and mammal management across the UK. You will develop and implement BASC’s strategy, ensuring evidence-based management is integral to land management, woodland restoration and nature recovery.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in deer management, ecology, forestry, land management or related discipline.
• DSC1 or equivalent deer management qualification and DSC2 or equivalent practical competence.
• Experience translating strategic objectives into practical programmes and measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead BASC's strategic approach to deer management, aligned with wider objectives.
• Define and promote sustainable deer management through evidence, data and monitoring.
• Develop practical capability, training, guidance and best-practice in deer management.
• Lead policy and advocacy on deer management, influencing government and regulators.
• Develop strategic partnerships with land managers, government, NGOs and researchers.
• Build understanding and support for responsible deer management and stalking among members.
