Job summary

South Western Railway is seeking a Senior Internal Communications Manager to lead a small team and coordinate high‑quality internal communications across multiple locations for 7,500 employees.

You will develop content for newsletters, intranet, and messaging systems, partner with senior leaders, and drive strategic campaigns while ensuring consistent messages across departments and external partners.

Qualifications

• Experience in a large organisation with multiple locations.
• High standard of writing for diverse audiences.
• Strong editing and proof-reading skills.
• Excellent verbal and presentation skills.
• Ability to build cross-level relationships.
• Proficient IT and email management systems.
• Experience developing internal communications strategies.
• Experience improving communications channels.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day internal communications delivery to the business unit via established channels.
• Line manage two Internal Communications Managers.
• Source, develop and publish stories supporting priorities and engagement.
• Support line managers with content to communicate with their teams.
• Lead development and delivery of internal communications campaigns.
• Collaborate with other functions to advise on communications needs and messages.
• Build relationships with senior leaders to support effective communications.
• Plan and manage online and in-person events.
• Support colleague engagement campaigns ahead of changes.
• Represent the team in industry initiatives as needed.
• Collate and analyse communications feedback and identify improvements.
