Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Director of Education, SEND and Skills to lead across education, SEND and skills and work with children, young people and families. The role is based at County Hall, Morpeth, with on-site attendance and regular travel across the county.

You will bring strategic insight, resilience and collaboration to navigate complex partnerships and policy landscapes, delivering ambitious outcomes and strong performance across the education system.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent.
• Senior management experience in school improvement or education leadership.
• Knowledge of current educational policy, curriculum, teaching, assessment and management.
• Experience leading major change and external relationships.
• Ability to operate in a political environment and manage financial constraints.

Responsibilities

• Lead Education, SEND and Skills across Northumberland and be a system leader.
• Analyse performance and drive improvement for better outcomes.
• Develop external relationships and influential partnerships for the system.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director and other senior leaders.
• Ensure delivery within financial and policy contexts.
