Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a proactive Strategic Transport professional to lead the development of transport strategies, policies and evidence across the county. Based at County Hall, Morpeth, this role offers hybrid working with some site visits and evening meetings.

You will translate policy into delivery, influence decision-making and manage complex programmes, budgets, and contracts while building strong partnerships with stakeholders across local government and external

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in transport, planning, engineering or related discipline.
• Significant experience developing and delivering transport strategies, policies, programmes or projects.
• Strong knowledge of transport planning, transport policy, highways legislation and infrastructure delivery processes.
• Experience managing programmes, projects, budgets and resources to deliver outcomes.
• Ability to build partnerships and influence stakeholders across local government and external agencies.
• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills with clear professional advice.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of transport strategies, policies and evidence to support the Council's ambitions.
• Provide expert advice on strategic transport issues to senior officers, elected members and partners.
• Develop business cases, funding bids and investment proposals securing resources for transport improvements.
• Manage the development and delivery of major transport programmes and capital schemes.
• Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders to support delivery of strategic transport initiatives.
• Support and develop other transport professionals, promoting a collaborative, high-performing approach.
