Job summary

Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust in Wales seeks a Data Protection Officer to lead information governance and GDPR compliance across the organisation.

The post holder will be the trusted expert, advising the SIRO and Caldicott Guardian, driving strategic IG development, and shaping data protection practices throughout clinical and corporate services.

The role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to balance governance with high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Masters level qualification in information/health informatics or related experience.
• Recognised information governance or data protection qualification.
• Deep knowledge of information governance, informatics, IT security and related legislation.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist expert advice to the SIRO and Caldicott Guardian on information governance and data protection.
• Act as the Trust representative in NHS Wales forums on Data Protection and IG.
• Lead internal/external projects to advise on information governance.
• Attend local, regional, and national forums to promote IG across organisations.
• Liaise with the ICO on appeals, complaints and reviews.
