Job summary

Vulcain Engineering is seeking a commercially minded Commercial Manager to own the commercial aspects of key UK infrastructure contracts. You will work across procurement, contract delivery, and project stakeholders to protect commercial interests and drive value through the contract lifecycle.

Based in Ipswich, you will lead commercial strategies, support tendering, manage supplier relationships, and oversee variations and disputes, contributing to a nationally important clean energy programme.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering commercial or contract management in large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong contract administration principles and commercial best practice.
• Experience managing supplier relationships and navigating complex stakeholder environments.
• Knowledge of NEC and FIDIC forms.
• Ability to interpret financial information and assess business risk.
• Excellent communication and negotiation with senior stakeholders.
• Membership/progress towards RICS/CICES/IOB is beneficial.
• Willingness to reside near Ipswich; travel not covered.

Responsibilities

• Act as the commercial lead for allocated contract packages from procurement to completion.
• Develop commercial strategies aligned with project objectives and delivery requirements.
• Support tendering with commercial evaluations, supplier negotiations, and contract awards.
• Manage commercial relationships with suppliers and ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled.
• Review contract performance and identify opportunities to improve value, reduce risk.
• Lead assessment of contract variations, compensation events, claims and disputes.
• Produce commercial analysis, forecasts, and management reports.
• Ensure robust governance and maintain contract documentation throughout the lifecycle.
• Collaborate with procurement, legal, project controls and delivery teams to resolve issues.
• Support development of less experienced team members and drive continuous improvement.
