Job summary

The Boots Company PLC is seeking an Assistant Manager in Reading to lead a frontline team and ensure customers receive outstanding care while achieving strong commercial results. You will balance people, performance and store operations every day, coaching your team, planning rotas and maintaining compliance.

As a hands-on leader, you’ll be on the shop floor, driving customer service, inventory control and audits, and acting decisively to optimise store performance and customer experience.

• Experience leading a team in a customer-facing environment.
• Ability to drive performance and deliver results through others.
• Strong coaching, feedback and people development skills.
• Organisational skills for rotas, absence, workload management.
• Understanding of compliance, safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach your team on the shop floor and role model great care and commercial performance.
• Create a positive, supportive team environment and motivate colleagues.
• Coach, develop and line manage through regular conversations and clear expectations.
• Oversee day-to-day store operations including planning, scheduling and workload prioritisation.
• Maintain high store standards: cleanliness, safety and ease of shopping.
• Own stock availability, cost control and loss prevention.
• Ensure audits and risk assessments keep store compliant and safe.
• Use data and in-store insights to identify opportunities and take action.
• Lead store operations in the Store Leader's absence and take accountability.
