Job Application for Storage Engineer – Platform Engineering (12-month FTC) at Man Group, London

About the Role

Man is undergoing a significant infrastructure project in 2025, and we are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract to help us achieve our goals. Positions are available in our Windows, Linux, and Storage Engineering teams. You will manage daily infrastructure operations and contribute to critical project work.

We are looking for a Storage Engineer to join the Infrastructure Engineering team within Platform. The role offers scope to work on various aspects of infrastructure, tackle impactful projects, receive formal training, and gain mentorship from senior leaders, developing a thorough understanding of our business. Man Group operates a hybrid working model, aiming for this individual to work four days a week in the office.

What You Will Learn

1. Managing large internal data centres with thousands of cores and extensive memory, utilizing Python at scale.
2. Building and managing Man Group’s infrastructure, both on-premises and in the cloud, with technologies such as Python, .NET, Linux, Windows Server, Databases, and Storage.
3. Automating infrastructure through software development and creating flexible self-service solutions for thousands of users.
4. Maintaining reliable systems while administering petabyte-scale storage and large CPU/GPU deployments.
5. Operating and optimizing global network interconnects within our data centres.
6. Collaborating closely with business stakeholders in a dynamic environment.

Key Skills & Experience

• At least 2 years of relevant industry experience and technical expertise demonstrated through open-source contributions.
• Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, C#, PowerShell, C++, or Go.
• Experience with configuration management tools like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Salt.
• Experience working with Windows Server, Linux distributions, or storage arrays at scale, managing vendors like Dell, VAST, Pure Storage, or NetApp.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Understanding of source control and continuous deployment workflows using tools like Git.
• Experience administering operating systems (Linux, Windows, MacOS) and familiarity with cloud technologies.
• Self-organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• A proactive learner eager to understand the business environment.
