Job Application for Linux Infrastructure Engineer – Platform Engineering (12-month FTC) at Man Group, London

About the Role

Man is undergoing a significant infrastructure project in 2025, and we are searching for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract basis to help us achieve our goals. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our infrastructure and contribute to critical project work.

As a Linux Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll face a variety of challenges. We value a passion for technology and consider leading-edge tech essential for keeping our business at the forefront. Your work will involve Linux servers, virtualized Linux desktops, HPC compute, Kubernetes, cloud and virtualization tech, high-performance storage, as well as monitoring and visualization techniques.

This is a hands-on technical role that also involves advising and guiding teams on infrastructure architecture. We seek candidates with broad infrastructure knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and possibly a particular area of expertise to bring to the team.

Man operates a hybrid working model, aiming for this individual to work 4 days a week in the office.

What You Will Learn

1. Managing large internal data centers with extensive cores and memory, utilizing Python at scale.
2. Building and managing Man Group’s infrastructure on-premises and in the cloud, using Python, Go, Linux, Ansible, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
3. Automating infrastructure and creating self-service tech for thousands of users.
4. Maintaining reliable systems with petabyte-scale storage and large CPU/GPU deployments, e.g., Spark.
5. Collaborating with business stakeholders in a dynamic environment.

Key Skills & Experience

• Technical experience through open-source contributions and at least 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Proficiency with programming or scripting languages such as Python, Go, C, or C++, with confidence in reading and writing code. Python is preferred.
• Experience with configuration management tools like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Salt.
• Experience working with Linux at scale.

Desirable Skills & Experiences

• Understanding source control and CI/CD workflows with tools like git and Jenkins.
• Experience with orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Self-organized with good time management across multiple projects.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Self-motivated learner interested in the business environment.
