Job summary

Conquip Engineering Group is seeking a Stock Control Manager to lead stock accuracy, fleet management and operational processes at our Alton head office. You will work with Operations, Purchasing and Finance to ensure equipment is available, correctly tracked and meeting customer demand.

This hands-on leadership role requires capability to drive improvements, monitor stock movements, manage the hire fleet and develop the Stock Control Administrator.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in stock control, inventory management, asset management or a similar operational role.
• Strong organisational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Demonstrable ability to manage stock accuracy, investigate discrepancies and implement improvements.
• Confidence working with stock data, reporting and operational performance metrics.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
• A proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
• Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.
• Confidence in providing direction, support and accountability within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of stock accuracy, inventory records and effective stock control procedures.
• Oversee weekly stock takes, investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor stock movements, damaged equipment and asset records to ensure traceability.
• Collaborate with Purchasing and Finance to maintain valuations and support informed decisions.
• Identify opportunities to minimise stockholding, reduce waste and improve efficiency.
• Support audits, ensuring records and processes remain accurate and compliant.
• Manage additions to the hire fleet, ensuring equipment is recorded, allocated and available.
• Maximise equipment availability by working with depot teams and refurbishment scheduling.
• Provide data to support fleet investment, replacement and purchasing decisions.
• Coordinate disposal of obsolete or surplus equipment.
• Identify opportunities to improve asset productivity and maximise returns.
• Analyse stock performance, fleet utilisation and operational trends.
• Produce reports and recommendations for management decisions.
• Identify recurring issues and opportunities for process improvement.
• Drive consistency, accountability and control across stock management.
• Support the wider Operations team with reliable data for decision-making.
• Manage, support and develop the Stock Control Administrator.
• Set priorities, responsibilities and performance expectations.
• Ensure stock administration, reporting and deadlines are met.
• Promote a proactive, accountable working environment.
