Job summary

STERIS is recruiting for a Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship role in the UK. You will follow a controlled sterilisation process for operating theatres, ensuring instruments are decontaminated, inspected and packed to exact standards.

Training is practical and structured, with ongoing education to qualify in healthcare science disciplines. The position starts with 12 weeks of training and progresses to full operational duties within NHS and private hospital contracts.

Qualifications

• Good verbal and numerical abilities are required.
• Basic end-user IT skills to operate traceability systems.
• Educated to a good general standard and reliable in tasks.

Responsibilities

• Follow a regulated sterilisation/decontamination process for surgical instruments.
• Prepare sterile consumables by decontamination, inspection, assembly and packing.
• Check, wash, lay up and pack theatre instrument sets to contract specs.
• Safely operate and monitor washers, ultrasonic cleaners and sterilisers.
• Record repairs and missing instruments on SynergyTrak.
• Return repaired items to stock or designated sets.
