Job summary

Branston Ltd is seeking a Statutory Financial Controller to ensure the accuracy, integrity and timely delivery of the Group’s financial reporting, with ownership of statutory accounts and month-end close.

From our sites in Lincoln, Scotland and the Southwest, Branston supplies major retailers and manufacturers in the UK. We innovate in packaging and ready-to-cook vegetables, offering a fast-paced environment and development opportunities for a finance leader.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Strong experience in financial control and statutory reporting
• Proven ability to lead month-end close and manage external audits
• Experience in a manufacturing, FMCG, food or fast-paced operational environment

Responsibilities

• Own the year-end statutory accounts process and act as the key contact for external auditors, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
• Lead the month-end process, ensuring robust controls, accurate reporting and clear analysis of financial performance.
• Oversee weekly financial reporting and drive improvements to data quality, efficiency and variance analysis.
• Own the rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and provide clear analysis of forecast versus actual performance.
• Review investment proposals, challenge business cases and monitor capital spend against budget.
• Support the annual budget and six-month reforecast, providing financial insight and challenge.
• Oversee key corporate tax, VAT, R&D tax and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Lead, coach and develop five direct reports, building a strong and effective Finance team.
• Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, systems, reporting and controls.
• Manage the fixed asset and capital expenditure processes, ensuring accurate records and appropriate financial controls.

The Role

What we want from you?

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Strong experience in financial control, statutory reporting and month-end close
• Proven experience preparing statutory financial statements and managing external audits
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of statutory reporting requirements
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate trends, variances and financial performance
• Experience managing, developing and coaching a finance team
• Strong Excel and financial systems capability, with an appetite for process improvement and automation
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with non-finance colleagues
• Experience within a manufacturing, FMCG, food or other fast-paced operational environment
