Job summary

Branston is seeking a Statutory Financial Controller to ensure the accuracy, integrity and timely delivery of the Group's reporting. You will own statutory accounts, financial controls and the month-end close, leading a Finance team of five.

You will oversee tax, VAT, and other statutory reporting while managing external audits and driving improvements to processes and controls at Branston's Lincoln site. This role is on-site with a structured 5-day week.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in financial control and month-end close.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and statutory reporting.
• Experience preparing statutory financial statements and managing external audits.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to challenge financial performance.
• Experience developing and coaching a finance team.

Responsibilities

• Own year-end statutory accounts process and act as key contact for external auditors.
• Lead month-end process with robust controls and clear variance analysis.
• Oversee weekly financial reporting and improve data quality and efficiency.
• Own rolling 13-week cash flow forecast with variance analysis.
• Review investment proposals and monitor capital spend vs budget.
• Support annual budget and six-month reforecast with financial insight.
• Oversee corporate tax, VAT, and R&D reporting requirements.
• Lead, coach and develop five direct reports in the Finance team.
• Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls.
• Manage fixed assets and capital expenditure records with strong controls.

The Role

As Statutory Financial Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timely delivery of the Group's financial reporting, with ownership of statutory accounts, financial controls and the month‑end close process.

What will you be doing?

• Own the year-end statutory accounts process and act as the key contact for external auditors, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
• Lead the month‑end process, ensuring robust controls, accurate reporting and clear analysis of financial performance.
• Oversee weekly financial reporting and drive improvements to data quality, efficiency and variance analysis.
• Own the rolling 13‑week cash flow forecast and provide clear analysis of forecast versus actual performance.
• Review investment proposals, challenge business cases and monitor capital spend against budget.
• Support the annual budget and six‑month reforecast, providing financial insight and challenge.
• Oversee key corporate tax, VAT, R&D tax and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Lead, coach and develop five direct reports, building a strong and effective Finance team.
• Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, systems, reporting and controls.
• Manage the fixed asset and capital expenditure processes, ensuring accurate records and appropriate financial controls.

What we want from you?

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Strong experience in financial control, statutory reporting and month‑end close
• Proven experience preparing statutory financial statements and managing external audits
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of statutory reporting requirements
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate trends, variances and financial performance
• Experience managing, developing and coaching a finance team
• Strong Excel and financial systems capability, with an appetite for process improvement and automation
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with non‑finance colleagues
• Experience within a manufacturing, FMCG, food or other fast‑paced operational environment
