VH Talent Limited is partnering with a global engineering organisation to appoint an experienced Financial Controller in Loughborough. The role leads the site finance function, delivering accurate reporting, robust controls, and insightful financial analysis to support leadership decisions.

You will drive month-end close, budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis while ensuring compliance with US GAAP, IFRS and UK requirements.

Qualifications

• Qualified professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA or equivalent).

Financial Controller

Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum

Working Hours: Monday – Friday, Day Shift

Location: Loughborough, Leicestershire

This is a key role within the Finance Team, providing strong financial leadership, oversight and commercial insight across the site.The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting, leading the month-end close process, maintaining robust financial controls and supporting the wider business with meaningful analysis and financial insight. You’ll work closely with operational and senior leadership teams, providing clear financial information to support effective decision-making and business performance.

Quick snapshot of the Financial Controller role:

• Take ownership of the site finance function, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting. Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, ensuring all reporting is completed accurately and within divisional, group and corporate deadlines.
• Review and analyse financial performance, providing clear insight into key trends, risks, opportunities and variances. Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts, P&L reviews, balance sheet analysis, bridge analysis and wider management reporting.
• Lead the budgeting and rolling forecasting processes, working closely with operational stakeholders to develop robust financial plans and forecasts. Provide financial analysis and modelling to support business planning, investment decisions and operational performance.
• Ensure the integrity of the general ledger, including review of journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, depreciation and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain and continuously improve the site’s financial control environment, ensuring compliance with company policies, SOX requirements and relevant accounting standards. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting frameworks and regulatory requirements, including US GAAP, IFRS and relevant UK statutory requirements.
• Partner closely with operational and senior management teams, providing financial guidance and challenging performance where appropriate.
• Monitor and analyse key financial and operational drivers, including sales, costs, margins, working capital and other relevant KPIs. Oversee and support inter-company accounting processes, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
• Lead and support internal and external audit activity, ensuring appropriate documentation and evidence is maintained.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, reporting and systems, driving greater efficiency and accuracy across the finance function. Provide leadership, guidance and support to members of the wider Finance Team, helping to develop capability and maintain high standards.
• Deliver weekly flash reporting, WIN scorecard reporting and other divisional and group reporting requirements. Provide ad-hoc financial and commercial analysis to support business priorities and strategic decision-making.

You’ll Need:

• ACCA / CIMA / ACA qualified, or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• Proven experience within a Financial Controller, Site Finance Manager, Senior Management Accountant or similar senior finance position, ideally within a manufacturing, engineering or international organisation.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with a good understanding of US GAAP, IFRS and financial control frameworks.
• Demonstrable experience leading month-end and year-end close processes and producing accurate management accounts.
• Strong understanding of core accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, depreciation, provisions, balance sheet control and inter-company accounting.
• Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, variance analysis and financial planning.
• Experience working with ERP systems, financial reporting tools and data systems. Excellent Excel skills, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and the ability to manipulate and analyse large datasets.
• Strong understanding of internal controls and SOX requirements, with experience identifying and addressing control weaknesses.
• Experience working with internal and external auditors and supporting audit processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and translate it into meaningful business insight.
• Commercially aware, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and provide constructive financial advice to non-finance stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to senior management.
• Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proactive, adaptable and comfortable working independently while also contributing to a collaborative Finance Team.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to support and develop more junior members of the finance function.
