Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the system engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical responsibilities of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables

• Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
• May lead in creating ideas for new products or services and developing plans for new designs.
• Manage ideas from initial design to production and installation.
• Draw detailed technical plans for concepts and ideas.
• Apply mathematical and scientific skills to develop practical solutions.
• Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
• Calculate accurate cost analysis forecasts for projects.
• Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
• Ensure quality-control testing and oversee the construction, development, and deployment of systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of own engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
• Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
• Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Develop personal engineering skills continuously.
• Solve complex problems with innovative solutions.
• Work independently with minimal guidance.
• Lead projects or project phases when required.
• Mentor colleagues with less experience.
• Comply with QEHS requirements.

Skill Requirements

• Previous technical SISS experience, including engineering, design, and survey skills.
• Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
• Competent with MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
• Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD software.
• Ability to work collaboratively and customer-focused.
• Problem-solving passion with strong analytical skills.
