Job summary

City of Doncaster Council is seeking a Starting Point Caseworker on a temporary fixed-term until 31 March 2029, based in Doncaster. The role focuses on frontline assessments, triage and coordinated accommodation for individuals with complex needs, including homelessness, addiction, offending and mental ill health.

You will work with partners to deliver integrated support and housing plans. You will engage with vulnerable adults, build relationships, assess risks and deliver person-centred plans

Based at: Changing Lives/Civic Office/Colonnades House/Community, Doncaster

Salary details: Grade 8, 34,434 - 38,221 (Pay Award Pending)

Contract Type: Temporary Fixed Term until 31st March 2029

Hours: Full Time, 37 Hours per week (Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm)

The Starting Point Team sits at the heart of a multi-agency Alliance, working collaboratively with a range of statutory and voluntary sector partners.

As a frontline Caseworker, you will play a key role in identifying, engaging and supporting individuals with complex needs, providing robust assessments, effective triage and coordinated accommodation and support plans.

You will work with people who may be experiencing a combination of challenges, including:

  • Homelessness or housing instability
  • Drug and alcohol misuse
  • Offending behaviour
  • Mental ill health
  • Poor physical health
  • Social exclusion and multiple disadvantage

Our approach is centred on recovery, resettlement, empowerment and inclusion. We are committed to reducing harm, promoting wellbeing and ensuring that no one is left without help or hope.

As a Starting Point Caseworker, you will: Build positive and trusting relationships with individuals experiencing multiple disadvantage. Undertake person centred assessments to identify needs, strengths and risks. Develop and coordinate tailored support and accommodation plans and work alongside partner agencies to deliver integrated and effective support.

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient and committed to supporting people with complex needs.

You may already have experience in housing, homelessness, social care, criminal justice, mental health, substance misuse or a related field. However, we also welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills gained through other employment or voluntary work.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working directly with vulnerable individuals or those with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills.
  • An understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment and person-centred support and demonstrate a commitment to equality, inclusion and trauma informed practice.
