Job summary

Dex is building AI software that transforms unstructured sensor data into real-time operational intelligence for semi-autonomous platforms. This isn’t a typical backend role: you’ll set the technical direction across intermittent connectivity, resource-constrained embedded compute, air-gapped fleets, and low-trust networks, making high-impact decisions with broad influence.

The stack is Rust and Python, and you’ll write RFCs, mentor teams, and own architecture that other engineers depend on,

Qualifications

• Own architecture and technical direction for critical backend systems.
• Deep authority in edge computing, latency, and distributed systems.
• Experience building backend systems in Rust, Java, Go, or C++ with production-grade trade-offs.
• Mentor peers, review RFCs, and unblock teams.
• Comfortable in domains with evolving ethics and high-stakes settings.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and technical direction for backend systems that other engineers depend on.
• Define and implement solutions for intermittent connectivity, resource-constrained embedded compute, air-gapped fleets, and low-trust networks.
• Drive technical decisions and RFCs for fleet coherence, software versioning over low-bandwidth radios, and trust boundaries in unsecured environments.
• Ensure graceful degradation and reliability in high-stress, real-time operational settings.
• Actively identify and address cross-team technical opportunities and challenges.
