Workplace Classification:

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team:

GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT solutions for Motorsports. Using cloud infrastructure and modern software standards, we enable interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and Race teams to achieve podium finishes in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA. Our team includes analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers working with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery. This experienced role requires an expert technical foundation, hands-on project contributions, solution architecture development, and experience with scalable cloud systems. You will shape and build Motorsports software, focusing on aerodynamics systems design to give our teams a competitive edge on race day and inform production vehicle development.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a team of developers in implementing GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis. Creating modular, pluggable systems orchestrated by the platform.
  2. Leading solution architecture discussions and gaining team consensus.
  3. Focusing on modern application design, code quality, and loosely coupled system integration.
  4. Collaborating with the aerodynamics team to identify and fill value gaps with innovative solutions.
  5. Resolving technical blockers and ensuring smooth project milestones.
  6. Delivering Scrum stories and contributing to build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  7. Supporting team collaboration and maintaining self-management in project delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant technical field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience with full-stack application development and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 5 years in microservices development and 2 years in web services design.
  • Proficiency with containers (Kubernetes, Docker), CI/CD, and agile methodologies.

People Skills:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technical decision-making and experience with distributed, event-driven applications.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, AI/ML, VR frameworks, data streaming, and cross-platform development.
  • Leadership experience and familiarity with system architecture.
