Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our state-of-the-art Urology Centre for a permanent Band 5 Staff Nurse position. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who enjoys working in a challenging environment. You will provide excellent, evidence-based care for all our service users, whether attending for Brachytherapy, general urology procedures in our theatre, flexible cystoscopy, prostate biopsy in treatment suites, or outpatient appointments in consultation rooms. Previous experience in urology is advantageous, but opportunities for personal and professional development are available.

Main duties of the job

To act as a lead and mentor for staff, supporting their development. To run clinics, assist with urological procedures and treatments, and ensure a productive outpatient environment.

The role involves managing quality and clinical care, advocating for the patient experience, managing resources effectively, and deploying junior staff appropriately.

Key result areas/main duties and responsibilities
  • Adhere to standards of patient care within nursing philosophy and customer care principles.
  • Provide care, support, and clinical functions within the Urology Centre.
  • Ensure effective communication and foster a welcoming environment for patients and staff.
  • Liaise with clinicians and other professionals to coordinate care and meet standards.
  • Maintain the 18-week pathway system and record accurate data as required.
  • Promote respect for privacy, dignity, and cultural beliefs.
  • Support patients’ medical, social, and psychological needs as a patient advocate.
  • Manage resources within the Urology Centre budget to ensure safe and cost-effective service delivery.
  • Ensure evidence-based care aligned with Trust policies and guidelines, providing supervision and support.
  • Utilize Trust computer systems with appropriate training.
  • Exemplify professional work and behavior, including punctuality and attendance.
  • Occasionally take charge of the Urology Centre area.
  • Familiarize staff with Trust policies and procedures, acting as a role model and leader when necessary.
  • Continuously develop clinical and professional knowledge, attending mandatory and professional updates.
  • Work towards the competencies and objectives expected of a Band 5 Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with Band 2 performance appraisals and personnel management alongside the Charge Nurse/Sister.

Qualifications
  • Hold a nursing accreditation (NMC PIN).
Knowledge
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Understanding of healthcare policies, national guidance, CQC standards, and their implications.
  • Knowledge of the specialist outpatient area.

Salary: £31,469 to £38,308 per annum (including high-cost area supplements).
