Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer in the Subscriptions User Understanding domain. You will define the long‑term data strategy, design scalable batch and streaming platforms, and partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics and Platform teams to solve complex business challenges.

You will lead architectural decisions, governance, and data quality practices while mentoring engineers and driving improvements across the data ecosystem to support one billion users.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, and operating large‑scale cloud‑native data platforms.
• Ability to design reliable distributed data pipelines with modern tooling.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, metadata management, governance, and data quality.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long‑term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms powering analytics and ML.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics and Platform teams.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish data quality, governance and observability practices.
• Design data models and platform architectures for scalable growth toward one billion users.
• Simplify systems, reduce technical debt, and improve developer experience across data ecosystem.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering.
