Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc in the United Kingdom seeks a Management Accountant to join the Leicester finance team. This role supports monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, budgeting and analysis to enable informed decision-making.

You will work with internal stakeholders, ensure compliance with financial controls and SOX, and coordinate with external service providers to maintain accurate financial information.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years experience in accounting or finance.
• 2+ years in a manufacturing or commercial environment, ideally batch manufacturing with multiple customers.
• Advanced Excel modelling and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial information (P&L, Balance Sheets, cash flow) for management and statutory bodies.
• Ensure financial controls and SOX compliance, supporting best practices.
• Provide management with information and analysis to aid decision-making.
• Ensure VAT, EC sales, Intrastat and payroll statutory compliance.
• Collaborate with external SSC on AP/AR/interco and bank postings.
• Support debt collection efforts and query resolution with SW centralised teams.
• Assist with monitoring and reporting of capital spend and stock levels (raw materials, WIP, finished goods).
• Assist with internal and external audit requests within set timescales.
• Deliver business support to profit and cost centres and manage priorities.

Job Purpose

The Management Accountant is an integral part of the Leicester finance team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within the business. The role involves assisting accounting personnel/management in the maintenance, reporting and management of the company’s finances.

Job Responsibilities/Key accountabilities:

• To assist with the accurate and timely preparation & submission of monthly, quarterly and annual financial information (e.g. P&L’s, Balance Sheets, FRP, Cash Flow) that meets the needs of management, the company, government and statutory bodies;
• To ensure financial consistency in accordance with SOX, Corporate Guidelines and support best practice approaches;
• To provide local management with information and analysis in order to assist them with improved decision-making;
• To ensure statutory compliance surrounding VAT, EC sales, Intrastat and payroll;
• To work closely with the external SSC on the transactional service they provide to business including AP, AR, Interco and bank postings;
• To work closely with SW centralised collection team in order to assist them with the on time collection of company’s debt and queries resolution;
• To assist with the monitoring, recording and reporting of capital spend against capital projects;
• To assist with recording and reporting of all company stocks including stocks of raw materials, WIP and finished goods;
• To assist with all internal and external audit requests within the published timescale for these audits;
• Be able to deliver business support to both profit centres and internal cost centres alike, manage priorities and demands on time accordingly;
• Ensure that internal controls are complete, robust and effective in order to safeguard company assets.
• To prepare and assist with preparation of Budgets and Forecasts.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

• At least 3 years experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing/commercial environment, ideally batch manufacturing with multiple customers.
• Thorough understanding of internal controls and their implementation.
• Ability to self motivate.
• Experience of communicating at all levels.
• Highly computer literate with advanced Excel modelling skills and presentation skills
