Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Leicester seeks a Management Accountant to join the local finance team, responsible for accurate monthly reporting and maintaining a robust finance function within the business.

You will assist with the preparation of P&L, balance sheets, FRP and cash flow, ensuring VAT, EC sales and payroll compliance while supporting management with timely information for decision-making. Experience in manufacturing is preferred.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of accounting experience.
• Minimum 2 years in a manufacturing environment, batch manufacturing preferred.
• Strong internal controls knowledge and SOX awareness.
• Advanced Excel modelling and data presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial information (P&L, Balance Sheets, FRP, Cash Flow).
• Ensure financial reporting aligns with SOX and corporate guidelines.
• Provide local management with information to aid decision making.
• Maintain VAT, EC sales, Intrastat and payroll compliance.
• Collaborate with external SSC on AP/AR/Interco postings and banking.
• Work with central collection team on debt collection and query resolution.
• Assist with capital spend monitoring and reporting on projects.
• Record and report stock levels (raw materials, WIP, finished goods).
• Support internal and external audits within published timescales.
• Assist with budgets and forecasts.

The Management Accountant is an integral part of the Leicester finance team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within the business. The role involves assisting accounting personnel/management in the maintenance, reporting and management of the company’ s finances.

• To assist with the accurate and timely preparation & submission of monthly, quarterly and annual financial information (e.g. P&L’s, Balance Sheets, FRP, Cash Flow) that meets the needs of management, the company, government and statutory bodies;
• To ensure financial consistency in accordance with SOX, Corporate Guidelines and support best practice approaches;
• To provide local management with information and analysis in order to assist them with improved decision-making;
• To ensure statutory compliance surrounding VAT, EC sales, Intrastat and payroll;
• To work closely with the external SSC on the transactional service they provide to business including AP, AR, Interco and bank postings;
• To work closely with SW centralised collection team in order to assist them with the on time collection of company’ s debt and queries resolution;
• To assist with the monitoring, recording and reporting of capital spend against capital projects;
• To assist with recording and reporting of all company stocks including stocks of raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
• To assist with all internal and external audit requests within the published timescale for these audits;
• Be able to deliver business support to both profit centres and internal cost centres alike, manage priorities and demands on time accordingly;
• Ensure that internal controls are complete, robust and effective in order to safeguard company assets.
• To prepare and assist with preparation of Budgets and Forecasts.
• At least 3 years experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing/commercial environment, ideally batch manufacturing with multiple customers.
• Thorough understanding of internal controls and their implementation.
• Ability to self motivate.

• Highly computer literate with advanced Excel modelling skills and presentation skills
