Job summary

Smurfit Westrock Company in Leicester is seeking a Management Accountant on a 12 months fixed-term contract to support the finance team with accurate reporting and financial analysis.

The role covers monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, adherence to controls, VAT, payroll, and collaboration with SSC for transactional processing, with a focus on delivering timely insights to management.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in finance or accounting.
• Minimum 2 years in manufacturing/commercial environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual financial information (P&L, Balance Sheets, FRP, Cash Flow) to meet management and statutory needs.
• Ensure financial processes align with SOX and corporate guidelines.
• Provide local management with information and analysis to aid decision-making.
• Ensure VAT, EC sales, Intrastat and payroll compliance.
• Collaborate with external SSC for AP, AR, Interco and bank postings.
• Work with SW centralised collection team for debt collection and query resolution.
• Monitor and report capital spend against capital projects.
• Record and report stocks including raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
• Assist with internal and external audits within deadlines.
• Support budgets and forecasts for profit and cost centres.

Job Purpose

The Management Accountant is an integral part of the Leicester finance team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within the business. The role involves assisting accounting personnel/management in the maintenance, reporting and management of the company's finances.

Job Responsibilities/Key accountabilities

• To assist with the accurate and timely preparation & submission of monthly, quarterly and annual financial information (e.g. P&L's, Balance Sheets, FRP, Cash Flow) that meets the needs of management, the company, government and statutory bodies;
• To ensure financial consistency in accordance with SOX, Corporate Guidelines and support best practice approaches;
• To provide local management with information and analysis in order to assist them with improved decision-making;
• To ensure statutory compliance surrounding VAT, EC sales, Intrastat and payroll;
• To work closely with the external SSC on the transactional service they provide to business including AP, AR, Interco and bank postings;
• To work closely with SW centralised collection team in order to assist them with the on time collection of company's debt and queries resolution;
• To assist with the monitoring, recording and reporting of capital spend against capital projects;
• To assist with recording and reporting of all company stocks including stocks of raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
• To assist with all internal and external audit requests within the published timescale for these audits;
• Be able to deliver business support to both profit centres and internal cost centres alike, manage priorities and demands on time accordingly;
• Ensure that internal controls are complete, robust and effective in order to safeguard company assets.
• To prepare and assist with preparation of Budgets and Forecasts.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

• At least 3 years experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing/commercial environment, ideally batch manufacturing with multiple customers.
• Thorough understanding of internal controls and their implementation.
• Ability to self motivate.
• Experience of communicating at all levels.
• Highly computer literate with advanced Excel modelling skills and presentation skills
• High level of Numerical /Verbal reasoning skills
