Job summary

Monarch Education are seeking a Sports Coach & Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist SEMH school in Telford. You will deliver engaging sports sessions and provide classroom support to help students overcome barriers to learning.

You will promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, building trusting relationships with pupils who may have faced challenges in education. The role combines sport coaching with teaching assistant duties.

Qualifications

• Experience with children or young people in education, sport coaching, youth work, mentoring, or care settings.
• Knowledge of SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional learning needs.
• Experience supporting young people with mental health needs.
• Passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
• Calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Flexible to support both sports delivery and classroom learning.
• Positive, proactive and nurturing approach.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging sports, PE, and physical activity sessions that promote confidence, teamwork, and resilience.
• Support students with SEMH needs, helping them develop emotional regulation and coping strategies.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have faced challenges in education.
• Provide classroom-based Teaching Assistant support across a range of subjects.
• Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting learning to meet individual needs.
• Use positive behaviour management strategies to support students in and out of the classroom.
• Encourage participation, attendance, and engagement through motivational approaches.
• Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
