Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking an experienced Speech & Language Teaching Assistant / Speech & Language Support Practitioner to join a specialist SEND school in the DE15 area. The role focuses on supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs, including SALT-related activities.

You could come from SEND TA, Speech & Language Therapy, SALT Assistant, Communication Support or specialist education backgrounds.

Qualifications

Experience supporting children with speech, language and communication needs.
Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
Ability to provide individualised communication support.
Resilient, patient and able to stay calm in challenging situations.
Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Understanding that behaviour can be a form of communication.

Responsibilities

Providing targeted speech, language and communication support.
Working with pupils 1:1 and in small groups.
Supporting pupils with speech and language disorders and communication difficulties.
Delivering activities and interventions set by SLTs or other professionals.
Using visual aids and alternative communication strategies.
Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, communication and social interaction.
Adapting activities to meet individual needs.
Supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour or dysregulation.
Recording progress and communicating with teachers and other professionals.
Creating a calm, consistent and supportive environment.
