Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking an experienced Speech & Language Teaching Assistant / Speech & Language Support Practitioner to join a specialist SEND school in the DE15 area. The role focuses on targeted SLT support, both 1:1 and in small groups, helping pupils develop communication and independence.

Experience with SALT programmes, Makaton, PECS or AAC is highly desirable; flexibility and resilience are essential for working with pupils with complex needs.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting speech, language and communication needs in pupils.
• Experience with children/young people with SEND.
• Ability to deliver individualised communication support.
• Resilience and calmness in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Providing targeted speech, language and communication support.
• Working with pupils 1:1 and in small groups.
• Supporting pupils with speech and language disorders and communication difficulties.
• Delivering activities set by therapists or other professionals.
• Using visual aids and alternative communication strategies.
• Encouraging pupils to build confidence and social interaction.
• Adapting activities to meet individual needs.
• Recording progress and communicating with teachers and professionals.
• Creating a calm, supportive environment for pupils.
