Turn this role into an interview — a resume and cover letter built around what this employer wants.
Welham Autism Centre seeks an experienced ADOS-trained Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team on a flexible self-employed basis. The role involves delivering ADOS assessments for children and young people and producing thoughtful documentation.
You will work with psychologists and other clinicians, contributing to practical, individualized recommendations to families. The work is primarily on-site in South Manchester, with some remote MDT work where appropriate.
We’re building a world where autistic children are understood, supported, and able to thrive. A world where being identified as autistic is not the end of your child’s care journey, but the beginning. The start of you and your child truly understanding who they are, what helps them feel comfortable, and how to advocate for their needs. A world where families can appreciate their child’s strengths, celebrate their identity, and feel confident in the path ahead.
We are looking for an experienced, ADOS-trained Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team on a flexible contractor basis.
The role will primarily involve:
The role is flexible, and within a new service, but we expect it to average approximately one day per week. Assessment sessions will take place South Manchester, with some associated administration and MDT work completed remotely where appropriate.
You will be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist who:
We are particularly interested in clinicians who see autism assessment as more than arriving at a 'yes' or 'no'. You will be passionate about helping families understand the young person in front of them and providing recommendations that translate into meaningful support at home, in education and in everyday life.
Contract type: Self-employed contractor
Rate: £80 per hour
Commitment: Ideally around one day per week, with flexibility by agreement
Location: Chorlton, Manchester
Contractors will be responsible for maintaining their own professional registration, indemnity insurance, DBS status and relevant training.
We want you to spend your time doing the work you trained to do and making a meaningful difference to families when they need it. We are focused on high-quality, needs-led care that respects the people we support and values each clinician’s expertise. We want children, parents and clinicians to have a positive experience of working with us, because we believe this leads to the best outcomes for everyone.
We value the different roles within an MDT and base decisions on specialist knowledge rather than hierarchy. Our systems are designed to work for you as a clinician, reducing admin and giving you time to explore, understand and connect with patients.
This is an opportunity to help shape a growing service and contribute to assessments that are clinically rigorous, neurodiversity-affirming and genuinely useful to families.
Welham Autism Centre is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly value lived experience of neurodivergence.
