Job summary

Smile Education are currently recruiting a Speech and Language Therapist to support children and young people within a specialist education setting in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist, newly qualified SLT, or soon-to-be qualified Speech and Language Therapy graduate who is looking to work within SEND, SEMH or specialist school provision.

The role involves supporting pupils with communication, interaction and language development across the school

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate should hold, or be working towards, a recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification.
  • HCPC registration is required for qualified Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Newly qualified therapists and final-year Speech and Language Therapy students may be considered.
  • RCSLT membership is desirable.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with speech, language and communication needs is essential.
  • Knowledge of SEND, Autism, SEMH, EHCPs and communication interventions is desirable.
  • Experience within a specialist school or SEND provision would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication, organisation and report-writing skills are expected.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Assess pupils’ speech, language and communication needs.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group speech and language interventions.
  • Support pupils with SLCN, Autism, SEMH, ADHD, attachment needs and wider SEND.
  • Develop and review communication targets and therapy programmes.
  • Contribute to EHCP targets, annual reviews and pupil progress meetings.
  • Provide practical communication strategies for teaching and support staff.
  • Work closely with SENDCos, teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies.
  • Support pupils with alternative and augmentative communication where required.
  • Monitor pupil progress and adapt support to meet individual needs.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and intervention notes.
  • Promote inclusive communication approaches across the school.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.

Smile Education are currently recruiting a Speech and Language Therapist to support children and young people within a specialist education setting in Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist, newly qualified SLT, or soon-to-be qualified Speech and Language Therapy graduate who is looking to work within SEND, SEMH or specialist school provision.

The role will involve supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Autism, SEMH, developmental language difficulties, attachment needs and wider barriers to communication and learning.

Role Overview

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will support pupils with communication, interaction and language development across the school day.

You will work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, SEND teams, families and external professionals to help pupils access learning, develop confidence and improve their communication skills.

The successful candidate will assist with assessment, intervention planning, one-to-one support, small-group work, EHCP targets, progress reviews and communication strategies within the classroom.

This role is suitable for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome communication barriers and build independence within education.

  • Experience within a specialist school, SEND school, alternative provision, resource base or mainstream school with SEND provision would be advantageous.
  • Candidates must have strong communication, organisation and report-writing skills.
  • You must be confident working collaboratively with education staff, families and external professionals.
  • You must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
Pay and Benefits
  • £110–£130 per day, dependent on experience and placement responsibilities.
  • Full-time, long-term opportunity within a specialist education setting.
