The NHS is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to support children and young people with Speech, Language, and Communication needs across Leeds. This role involves assessments, interventions, and collaboration with educational staff, offering both full-time and part-time positions. A supportive mentorship programme is provided to guide new practitioners through competency development.
We have an exciting opportunity to grow our team and are looking to appoint a Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of the mainstream offer in schools and community clinics across Leeds. You will be working across the city supporting children, young people, and their families, as well as school staff. Your responsibilities include providing assessments, interventions, coaching, and modelling sessions for children and young people with Speech, Language, and Communication needs (SLCN). You will work within a team comprising other Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs), Specialist SLTs, SLT Assistants, and Technical Instructors.
We offer both a full-time permanent position (37.5 hours) and a part-time permanent position (30 hours). A car driver is essential for these city-wide roles. You are expected to complete your RCSLT competencies within 18 months of starting.
You will work with pre-school and school-aged children with SLCN. This involves direct work with children and families to assess and develop communication skills, working alongside practitioners such as Teachers, Teaching Assistants, and Health Visitors in mainstream settings, as well as closely collaborating with parents/carers in community clinics and schools. You will be provided with a mentor and a supportive mentorship programme, including 121 and group meetings, to guide you through the RCSLT competency framework towards becoming an independent practitioner.
We are a hardworking, forward-thinking, and supportive service dedicated to providing the best possible care to the children of Leeds with SLCN. In addition to pathways into mainstream settings, we provide areas of specialism such as ICAN (Integrated Children's Additional Needs Service) Hubs, School Age Learning Disabilities, Deaf and Hearing Impairment, and Stammering.
