Job Opportunity: Speech and Language Therapist

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly therapy team at Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in York, on a 6-month fixed-term contract starting July 2024.

Woodlands is a specialist Level 2 neurorehabilitation facility, rated as GOOD by the Care Quality Commission. It is set in a picturesque location surrounded by mature woodlands, supporting up to 26 patients with acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, severe neurological conditions, complex stroke, and spinal cord injury. As part of the Active Care Group Neuro Network, we focus on clinical expertise, innovation, and technology to meet patients’ rehabilitation goals.

The interdisciplinary team, led by a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, provides high-quality neurological rehabilitation, assessments, behavioral management, and complex disability evaluations for adults.

Our neuro-specialist team includes a Junior Doctor, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Neuropsychologists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Technicians, specialist Nurses, and Rehabilitation Assistants.

Working Hours

Our standard hours are per week, Monday to Friday. We value work-life balance and are open to discussing flexible working arrangements to suit your needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage communication and swallowing disorders
  • Develop evidence-based therapy programs with a multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain high standards of clinical care in line with national guidance
  • Perform Named Therapist duties, goal-setting, and discharge planning
  • Engage in clinical supervision and mentoring of assistants and students
  • Participate in training and mandatory courses
  • Adhere to professional codes of practice and regulations
  • Contribute to service audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure patient safety and uphold human rights
Candidate Requirements
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience in neurorehabilitation
  • Expertise in aphasia, cognitive communication, dysarthria, apraxia, and dysphagia
  • Specialist dysphagia competency (RCSLT framework)
  • Motivational skills for long-term patient engagement
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
