An established healthcare provider is seeking Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine to join their dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, providing high-quality emergency care at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. The successful candidates will benefit from a supportive team of experienced consultants and a bespoke professional development plan tailored to individual needs. With beautiful sandy beaches nearby and a commitment to a diverse workforce, this position is perfect for those looking to make a significant impact in emergency medicine while enjoying a balanced lifestyle. Join a forward-thinking organization dedicated to transforming healthcare services in the region.
As University Hospitals Dorset, we are a three-site acute trust with ‘university hospital’ status through our partnership with Bournemouth University, working with an annual budget of £730m.
We offer highly regarded health services, employing some 10,000 staff. Our ambitious £250m estates programme is well on the way to delivering state-of-the-art facilities over the next two years to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the populations we serve.
In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with over seven miles of sandy beaches, you’ll find inspirational opportunities to achieve your perfect work/life balance. With the New Forest and the Purbecks on our doorstep, we’re also less than three hours from London by road or train. The thriving towns of Poole, Bournemouth, and Christchurch give way to idyllic villages and unspoilt landscapes just minutes from our hospitals.
We believe that having a diverse workforce, and allowing people to be themselves, is essential in ensuring we offer an inclusive, welcoming, and productive place to work. We especially welcome applications from minority groups in the community who may be underrepresented in our workforce.
At UHD, our active staff network groups are the Women's Network, Black Asian Minority Ethnic Group (BAME), Pride Network, European (EU), Pro Ability Staff Network, and the Armed Forces Support Group. As a Trust, we are proudly signed up to the Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant guaranteed interview schemes.
We are looking to appoint Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine at University Hospitals Dorset to work at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site, just a stone’s throw from the glorious blue flag beaches of Bournemouth and Poole.
The Emergency Medicine team at UHD has significant experience and expertise in supporting doctors through the CESR programme, many of whom now work as substantive consultants at both sites. We currently run a CESR programme that includes a bespoke professional development plan tailored to meeting the needs of the individual doctor, including availability of placements in Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Acute Medicine, and Paediatrics, as well as mentor support from a consultant who has previously attained CESR. There is the option for successful candidates to participate in this programme if desired.
At present, there is an Emergency Department at both Poole and Bournemouth sites, with RBH being the designated site for PCI and stroke thrombolysis, and Poole being the designated Major Trauma Unit as well as in-patient paediatric services. This is all set to change at the end of 2024 when the Trauma Unit status moves across to Bournemouth and the ED will move into a new state-of-the-art department in the Beach Building, alongside Paediatrics, Critical Care, and Maternity.
The candidate will be someone who is committed to Emergency Medicine and has a desire to work in a fast-paced and stimulating environment. The successful candidate will be supported by a team of 15 Consultants.
Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD. They underpin everything we do now and in the future. They define how we treat our patients, visitors, and each other, our valued teammates and colleagues.
