Job summary

The Manchester College is recruiting a Specialist Technician (Media) to support the Creative Industries Department in Manchester City Campus. This permanent, part-time role (17.5 hours per week) focuses on technical assistance for broadcast TV, film, audio production, graphic design and visual effects, helping staff and students deliver curricula.

Responsibilities include ordering and maintaining equipment, delivering practical guidance, and assisting with curriculum delivery.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 English & Mathematics required.
  • Industry qualification in Broadcast Media, TV, Film or Graphic Design/Visual Effects.
  • Knowledge of Broadcast cameras and digital cameras (HD/4K/8K).
  • Experience with camera operation, mic setup and sound for moving image.
  • Experience in studio and location recording for TV/film and audio.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain within first year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to staff and students to meet curriculum objectives.
  • Order, allocate and maintain all materials and equipment for delivery and assessment.
  • Support teachers with demonstrations and practical sessions to enhance student experience.

We have an exciting opportunity at our City Campus Manchester to join our Creative Industries Department as a Specialist Technician (Media) on a permanent, part time (17.5 hours per week) basis.

As a Specialist Technician within Media – Broadcast TV/ film, Audio production, Graphic Design and Visual Effects, you will support the teaching and learning objectives of planned curriculum programmes through the provision of technical support. To order, allocate and maintain all materials and equipment required by staff and students for curriculum delivery and assessment. To support teachers in the delivery of the curriculum and enhance the student experience by giving demonstrations and providing general (direct/practical) support and advice.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Level 2 English & Mathematics.
  • Industry relevant qualification within Broadcast Media, Tv, Film and/or Graphic Design and Visual effects.
  • Knowledge of Broadcast Cameras and Digital cameras that shoot in Full HD, 4K and 8K.
  • Demonstratable experience of camera functionality and operation, alongside microphone set up and sound recording for moving image.
  • Experienced in studio and location recording for TV/ film and Audio.
  • First Aid qualification (or be prepared to work towards within first year).
