Job summary

PMLD Teaching Assistant – Special School

GSL Education is currently recruiting a compassionate and dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a supportive special school on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or Support Worker with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and other complex needs.

The Role

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who have a range of complex and additional needs, supporting them both in and out of the classroom. You will play an important role in helping students access learning, develop communication skills and participate in activities tailored to their individual needs.

You will be expected to:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with PMLD and complex needs
• Support students with their learning, development and daily activities
• Assist with personal care, including toileting and feeding where required
• Support students with communication and sensory needs
• Help create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and other members of the school team
• Build strong, trusting and supportive relationships with students

The Ideal Candidate

To be considered for this role, you should have:

• Previous experience working with SEN students
• An understanding of PMLD and complex needs
• A willingness to support students with personal care
• A compassionate, patient and caring approach
• The ability to remain calm and adaptable in different situations
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A genuine passion for working within a special school environment
• Availability to work full-time

Previous experience supporting students with complex medical needs, physical disabilities, sensory needs or non-verbal communication would be highly beneficial.
