Position: Specialist Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about mental health and behavioural needs? Do you possess the skills, dedication, and empathy required to support and inspire students facing significant challenges in their educational journey?

We are collaborating with a dedicated specialist school in Slough that provides a safe and supportive environment for students with severe mental health needs. As a specialist teaching assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students achieve their personal and academic goals.

The school is based in Oxford and is looking to add a passionate support assistant to their team immediately. They seek someone with a genuine passion for education and mental health, eager to make a difference!

Your role will include providing tailored support to students, facilitating their educational health care plans and intervention strategies. You will help develop their social skills, emotional regulation, and academic engagement, ensuring all students can access education equally.

Responsibilities of a Specialist Teaching Assistant:
  1. Develop and implement individual support plans in collaboration with educational staff
  2. Monitor and report on student progress, including emotional and behavioural changes
  3. Provide personalised support addressing emotional, social, and educational needs
  4. Model healthy coping strategies and social skills
  5. Support and encourage emotional awareness
  6. Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning
Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience supporting children and young people with educational, social, emotional, and mental health needs is beneficial but not essential
  • Educational background in Psychology, Criminology, or Education is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills
  • Enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to obtain one
