Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting on behalf of mainstream secondary schools across Central and South Bristol for experienced SEND Teaching Assistants starting ASAP.

Ideal candidates will have experience supporting students with SEND, including autism, ADHD and SLCN, helping them access the curriculum with patient, nurturing support.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, coordinate with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and families to build confidence, independence and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with SEND
  • Understanding of Autism, ADHD and other learning needs
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships
  • Patient, nurturing and adaptable approach

Responsibilities

I am recruiting on behalf of a number of mainstream secondary schools across Central and South Bristol for experienced and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to support students with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and sensory processing differences.

This role is ideal for someone who has a strong understanding of SEND and thrives on helping students build confidence, independence and success within education.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both academically and socially throughout the school day.

You will:
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with additional needs
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual student requirements
  • Support students within mainstream lessons and specialist SEND provisions
  • Use tailored strategies to help students access the curriculum
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive engagement
  • Support communication, emotional regulation and organisation skills
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, therapists and families
  • Help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment
You may support students with:
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Physical disabilities or medical needs
  • EHCPs and additional learning needs

This role is focused on supporting students with SEND needs rather than behaviour-led or SEMH-focused interventions.

  • Experience supporting students with SEND
  • Understanding of Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs
  • A patient, nurturing and adaptable approach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong relationship-building abilities
  • Confidence supporting differentiated learning
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education
  • Reliability, consistency and commitment
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • Understanding of inclusive education practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider support team
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Work in supportive and inclusive secondary school environments
  • Make a genuine difference to students with additional needs
