Job summary

The Trust Education Limited, in partnership with a welcoming school in Sheffield, seeks a caring SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism and ADHD.

Experience in SEND, patience and good teamwork are essential to help the pupil access learning, build confidence and feel safe in a structured daily routine.

Job description

We are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive school in Sheffield to recruit a caring, patient and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with additional learning needs, including diagnosed Autism and ADHD.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with relevant SEND experience who is passionate about supporting children to overcome barriers to learning, develop their confidence and achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team to provide consistent, nurturing and tailored support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs.
  • Support the pupil to access learning and participate positively within the classroom.
  • Adapt and differentiate activities to suit the pupil's individual learning needs.
  • Provide patient, consistent and nurturing support throughout the school day.
  • Help the pupil develop their confidence, independence, communication and social skills.
  • Support transitions between lessons, activities and different areas of the school.
  • Implement individualised strategies and approaches agreed by the school and SEND team.
  • Support the pupil in accessing alternative and tailored learning provisions outside of the classroom, designed around their individual needs and interests.
  • Help create a calm, structured and predictable environment where the pupil feels safe and supported.
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent, agreed strategies.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider team to monitor progress and adapt support where necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate records and communicate effectively with relevant staff.
  • Promote the pupil's safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusion at all times.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Patient, caring and nurturing, with a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.
  • Experienced in supporting children with Autism and/or ADHD.
  • Confident providing 1:1 support within a school environment.
  • Calm and consistent when managing challenging or unexpected situations.
  • Able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Creative and adaptable in their approach to learning and engagement.
  • Understanding of the importance of personalised and child-centred support.
  • A strong communicator who works effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Committed to helping children develop independence, confidence and positive outcomes.
