Job summary

Supply Desk in Berkhamsted is looking for a Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated primary SEN unit. You will support pupils with diverse needs in a nurturing, structured setting within the school’s SEN resource base.

The role focuses on developing communication, social and independence skills, with guidance from teaching staff. Competitive pay, safeguarding training and progression opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience with children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
• Understanding of ASC, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, or SEMH challenges.
• Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Commitment to promoting inclusion and helping children build confidence and independence.
• Willingness to learn and engage with specialist training opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with additional learning, communication and social needs in the SEN provision.
• Deliver structured learning activities and intervention programmes.
• Help pupils develop communication, emotional regulation and social skills.
• Encourage independence through problem-solving, decision-making and self-care.
• Assist with transitions between SEN provision and mainstream classes.
• Prepare learning resources and adapt materials to individual needs.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil achievements and contribute to reviews.
