Job summary

Highbury Specialist School in Huddersfield is advertising a temporary maternity cover teaching post for pupils aged 4-11 with SEND. The role is full-time under MPS/UPS + SEN allowance, located at Highbury School with a starting date around 1 January 2027.

The closing date for applications is 2 November 2026 and interviews are planned for w/c 16 November 2026. Applicants will join a supportive team, receive a comprehensive induction, and benefit from strong SLT support as they develop practice

Qualifications

• Be a teacher with commitment to lifelong learning to continue to develop knowledge and skills.
• Work well with a dedicated staff team to transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable children with SEND.
• Communicate and engage effectively with children, staff, families, outside agencies, governors and the wider community.
• Be committed to leading improvements in teaching and learning.
• A secure knowledge of child development and the importance of play based learning.
• Have a good understanding of how to teach and promote receptive and expressive language.
• Have strong leadership skills that support to manage team and delegate effectively.
• Be confident and have child centred behaviour management skills that focus on proactive strategies and align with our key values that children do well if they can.
