Job overview

Are you passionate about supporting patients recovery and rehabilitation following traumatic injury or orthopaedic surgery? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced band 5 or an established band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.

Through this role, you will provide specialist clinical knowledge and support to therapy, nursing and medical teams with the management of T&O patients, demonstrating critical thinking, evidenced based care and clinical decision making to ensure compliance to local and national targets and guidelines. Along with the clinical component this role, you will also take a leading role in the supervision of Junior Therapists, Students and Therapy Support workers in the team.

Main duties of the job

Within this post you will be expected to:

Provide high quality, safe and evidence based Physiotherapy intervention to in-patients across the T&O service, including early supported discharge planning.

Hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of service or caseload, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences.

Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

Line manage Band 5 Therapists and and Therapy Support Workers.

Supervise and educate undergraduate Therapy Students and assess their performance as required to ensure their standard of practice and knowledge meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

Undertake evidence based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice and make recommendations to the clinical lead of that service regarding changes in practice by the team.

Contribute to the implementation of specific changes to practice and service protocols.

Deputise in the Band 7s absence as required.

Person specification
Experience
  • Sufficient postgraduate experience to demonstrate ability to meet the personal specification and fulfil the job description, including experience within the specialist field of T&O.
  • Experience of delegating to and supervising Physiotherapy/ Rehabilitation Assistants.
  • Contribution to the clinical education of less experienced staff or undergraduate Physiotherapy students
  • Experience of working as part of a Physiotherapy team and the wider MDT in an acute setting.
  • Participation in emergency duties
  • Involvement in audit and research
Qualifications
  • BSc/MSc Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registration
  • Full Drivers License and access to a vehicle for work
  • Membership of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
