Job summary

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in Eastbourne is seeking a Specialist Pharmacist in Intensive Care and Surgery. The role is NHS AfC Band 7, permanent, full time.

You will work within the Diagnostics, Anaesthetics and Surgery Division, support clinical pharmacy services across ICU and Surgical Assessment Unit, train junior staff, and collaborate with consultants and other healthcare professionals to optimise medicine use.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Pharmacy) / BPharm / MPharm degree and GPhC registration.
  • CPD portfolio demonstrating ongoing personal development.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or pharmacy practice / other equivalent.
  • Training pharmaco-economics / resource or change management.
  • Post-registration NHS clinical pharmacist experience.
  • Experience mentoring and training junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services to Intensive Care and Surgical Assessment Unit wards.
  • Train and mentor pre-registration pharmacists and rotational clinical pharmacists.
  • Join weekend and on-call service on a rota after orientation.
  • Collaborate with consultants and multidisciplinary teams to optimise medicines.

Job overview

We are seeking a patient focused pharmacists aiming to build on established clinical skills and work closely with clinicians in providing a high-quality service to patients within ESHT. We also require someone who can demonstrate a commitment to personal and staff development. This specialist pharmacist post is based within the Diagnostics, Anaesthetics and Surgery (DAS) Division and is responsible for supporting the Lead Divisional Pharmacist in providing clinical pharmacy and business level support within East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced hospital pharmacist to work with us in a portfolio style role within Diagnostics, Anaesthetics and Surgery (DAS) Division. Under the supervision of a designated Lead Pharmacist, you will work closely with consultants, other medical staff, nurses, pharmacy staff and other allied healthcare professionals in ensuring that medicine use is safe, effective and evidence based across ESHT. The post holder will be involved in providing clinical pharmacy services to Intensive Care and Surgical Assessment Unit wards and occasional support to the dispensary. This post also holds an education and training commitment, which in the past has proved successful in developing staff. The successful candidate will also be responsible for helping to train and mentor pre-registration pharmacists, pharmacy undergraduates and rotational clinical pharmacists. The applicant will be required to join the department weekend and on-call service on a rota basis following a period of orientation and induction.
